Wide range of pet door materials

Some people do not know this, but pet door suppliers work with plenty of different materials. Metals such as aluminium are common so that the frame can sustain your pet’s frequent jaunts in and out of the house. This allows it to last for years against any growing canine or feline.

For the flap itself, this can also be aluminium to sustain frequent head-on collisions; the lightweight nature of the metal means it does not affect your animal. Plastic is another common contender for the door’s flap, and this might be a better option if your pet is smaller or if you are on a budget.

Plastic flaps generally do fine in all kinds of weather – and only become brittle under -18 degrees. This would be unlikely for our Sunshine Coast climate, even in winter. Recently, there has been an emergence of Vinyl as an alternative to Plastic flaps – they have an added durability that makes them good for pets of all strengths.

Pet doors in all sizes

Your pet might be one size today and another tomorrow. For this reason, you must have a door for them that does not just do the job for now, but for as long as possible. We can supply pet doors that come in all manner of shapes and sizes because even your small puppy might one day be too big for even a medium door.

The positioning of the pet door is also important, and we endeavour to make sure it is at the best height that your pet needs. These doors work best when your animal has a good run-up to the flap and does not have to expend too much energy jumping to get through it. Ultimately, your pet door needs to be at a size that works long-term for your pet (or pets).

Frequently asked questions

Here are a few questions commonly asked in regards to pet door installation and use. If you do not see your query above or below, feel free to contact Roo’s Doors for more information.

How do I help my pet use its door?

Your animal might be a bit reluctant at first, but you can easily remedy this! This training might take a short while, but it will help your pet door pay off.

How high should the door be?

We will install the door about 2-3cm above your animal’s back, and at least 7-8cm from the floor. This can fluctuate based on your pet, but again, they must not have to squeeze or jump to get through.

Where can you install my pet door?

We can install pet doors onto most pre-existing doors. This is subject to your door's sturdiness and any housing agreements relating to pets.
