Types Of Windows To Consider For Your Home

Do the windows in your home need a pick-me-up? If so, you’re in the right place! Functional windows provide security and comfort to a home. The right windows even make your home more aesthetically pleasing. Choosing the best windows for your home is the hardest part of replacing windows. So, here is a short list of types of windows you could choose from:

Windows That Add Aesthetic Appeal And Value To Your Property

If you’re looking for windows that will, above all, enhance the aesthetic appeal of your home, perhaps consider fixed or corner windows.

Fixed windows do not open or close, they are purely for letting more light into a room and upping the appearance of your home. Corner windows can be opened and closed but get their appeal from bordering the edges of a room. Joined by a beam in the centre, the windows are adjacent to each other and allow for a panoramic view of the outside world.

Windows That Increase Ventilation Throughout The Home

If increasing the ventilation in your home is your main priority, standard sliding windows, louvred windows or ventilators might be more efficient for your purposes.

Most homes include sliding windows in every room. They can be opened and closed and come in varying sizes. If you wish to have more privacy, louvred windows are smaller panes of glass housed within a frame that can be opened as much as you desire. These are typically found in toilets as they increase airflow while maintaining privacy.

Ventilators are used in rooms with sloped roofs because they are small and used primarily for aeration. Nestled closer to the roof in a room, they increase air circulation where hot air tends to settle.

Windows That Seem To Enlarge The Room And Greatly Enhance Lighting

Most windows provide a room with more light but only some give a sense of more space. If you’re looking to trick the eye and expand a room, perhaps bay windows, lantern windows or skylights will better suit your needs.

Bay windows are set out from the exterior of your home and are usually seen above a day bed. They open and close and their convex shape draw in light. They also give your home a traditional homestead appearance.

Lantern windows or skylights utilise the power of the sun to provide more light from above. Lantern windows extend past a flat roof and maximise daylight in a triangular shape. Skylights are typically installed on sloped roofs but are normally flat in appearance. Both the former and the latter can be opened and closed if you choose and have guttering systems around the frame that make them leakproof.

Windows That Add Security To Your Home

The safety of your home is important but that doesn’t mean you have to forego beauty. Metal windows and sash windows provide your home with more structural integrity while maintaining light and airflow.

Metal windows are typically made from mild steel and can be formed in a variety of patterns over the standard glass pane. The most popular design is floral or gothic.

Sash windows are standard glass windows that have bars made from either timber or metal in a cross pattern crisscrossed out from the frame and over the glass.
